My Mother is the All-Encompassing One

During this MCO period, I have learnt that my mother is the All-Encompassing One.

She has risen to the challenges of the MCO almost effortlessly, juggling online teaching and taking care of two stubborn old people as well as a grumpy young adult (me, apparently). My grandparents and I are a handful but she puts us in our place while simultaneously doing more than what’s required for her students.

She’s as strict as a commanding officer about implementing the MCO at home but it’s only because grandma and grandpa are vulnerable persons. She would keep them safe even if it’s at the risk of her own health. When there was a possibility that someone would have to go to the hospital to get grandpa’s medication, she said that she would go (although she’s a vulnerable person herself). Her plan was to then quarantine herself in another location so that my grandparents and I would be safe from any potential COVID-19 exposure.

We are all on edge during this pandemic but she makes us feel better by being our unwavering (albeit often scary-strict) sunshine. She keeps us happy, well-fed, and sane. Thanks, Mummy – you really are the best of us!
